Our Approach: Longevity and Wellbeing, Rooted in Science and Whole-Person Care

The Saffron & Sage clinic in San Diego

Most people find us after years of being told their labs are "normal" while they still feel tired, wired, inflamed or simply not like themselves. Our approach exists for that gap. We look for the reasons behind how you feel, measure what matters, and build a plan around your body, your history and your goals, so you can live well for longer.

This article explains how care works at Saffron & Sage: what we believe, what we measure and what your first steps look like. If you are deciding whether to book a free discovery call, it is the best place to start.

Root causes, not quick fixes

Symptoms are signals. Fatigue, poor sleep, weight changes, hormone shifts, gut trouble and anxiety often share roots in stress physiology, nutrition, inflammation, hormones and the nervous system. Instead of treating each symptom in isolation, our team connects the dots between your health history, your lab data and your daily life, then addresses the causes with you.

We call this framework the Saffron Method. It was developed by our founder and it guides every plan we create: assess thoroughly, treat the whole person, measure progress and adjust.

Science and tradition, side by side

We are an integrative clinic. That means modern medicine and evidence-based research sit alongside time-tested traditions such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda.

  • Modern diagnostics: blood work and, when your history calls for it, stool, urine, saliva or hair testing, plus simple biomarkers such as blood pressure, resting heart rate, grip strength and waist-to-hip ratio.
  • Traditional assessment: tongue and pulse assessment from Chinese medicine, which help our practitioners understand patterns that lab values alone can miss.
  • Research-informed care: our practitioners lean on current research to choose therapies that are safe and appropriate for you, and they stay open to the parts of healing that are harder to measure.

How care works, step by step

  1. A free discovery call. A 15-minute phone conversation with our team. Tell us what is going on and what you have already tried. We will listen, answer your questions and tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.
  2. Your first visit and consultation. A one-on-one visit that looks at your physical health, emotional wellbeing, lifestyle, stress and history, so we understand the full picture before recommending anything.
  3. Testing that fits your history. Your doctor recommends only the tests that make sense for you, from our Saffron Panel blood work (up to 72 biomarkers, depending on the panel) to targeted add-on tests. Results are explained in plain language.
  4. A written plan you can follow. Your plan brings together the right mix of care for you, which may include nutrition, acupuncture, IV therapy, hormone support, bodywork, breathwork, counseling and movement.
  5. Re-checks every 90 days. We repeat key measures, including validated questionnaires for stress, mood and overall health (GAD-7, PHQ-9 and PROMIS Global 10), so you can see what is changing and we can adjust what is not working.

A team around you

Your care is collaborative. Our team includes doctors of acupuncture and Chinese medicine, naturopathic doctors, a psychotherapist and clinical hypnotherapist, a holistic esthetician, and massage and bodywork practitioners. They share notes and work from the same plan, so you are not left to coordinate between providers on your own.

Medical services are provided by Kasawa Medical APC, dba Saffron & Sage MD, an independent California medical practice. Non-medical wellness services are provided by Saffron & Sage LLC.

What longevity means to us

For us, longevity is not a single test or a trendy protocol. It is the steady work of keeping your energy, sleep, metabolism, hormones, strength and mood in a healthy range for as long as possible, and catching changes early. That is why we track biomarkers over time, combine them with how you actually feel, and treat wellbeing as part of your health rather than an extra.

À la carte or as a member

You can always book care à la carte. Membership is there for people who want ongoing support: it unlocks preferred pricing, regular follow-up on your results, member-only offers and events. Many services may also be paid for with HSA, FSA or LSA funds, depending on your plan.

Is our approach a fit for you?

  • You feel off, but your standard labs look "normal."
  • You want your symptoms explained, not only managed.
  • You like data, and you also want care that considers stress, emotions and lifestyle.
  • You would rather work with one coordinated team than several disconnected providers.
  • You are thinking long term about energy, healthy aging and longevity.
