Red light therapy in San Diego, used where it fits your plan
Red light therapy is everywhere now, from gym beds to face masks you can buy online. Maybe you want it as part of a skin routine, after microneedling or a facial, alongside acupuncture or an IV, or simply as twenty quiet minutes under a warm light.
At Saffron & Sage, we use LightStim® LED panels in a calm treatment room, and our team helps you decide when and how it belongs in your plan. For members, it is usually added to a service you are already booking.

What is red light therapy?

Red light therapy, sometimes called LED or low-level light therapy, uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light, shone onto the skin from a panel, with no heat damage, needles or downtime.
LightStim® panels use several wavelengths of light at once. The light is absorbed by cells in the skin and the tissue just below it, where researchers are studying how it interacts with the parts of cells that produce energy. It feels warm and gentle, and most sessions last 20 to 30 minutes.
We don’t make promises about results. Red light therapy isn’t a substitute for sunscreen, sleep or medical care, and research on many uses is still developing. Your provider will be straight with you about what it can reasonably offer, and when a facial, acupuncture or a visit with one of our doctors should come first.
How red light therapy fits into integrative care here
At Saffron & Sage, red light isn’t a tanning-salon add-on. It is offered to members as part of their care, usually alongside another service, and your provider or concierge can help you decide when to include it based on your plan. If you are working with our esthetician, acupuncturist or medical team, your sessions can be timed around what they are doing.
Many members pair it with facials and skincare, acupuncture or IV therapy. Others book it on its own for a quiet reset. Either way, you leave with a suggestion for how often it makes sense, not a package you have to buy.

What to expect under the light
You lie or sit back comfortably, and a curved LED panel is placed over the area being treated, usually the face, neck or a part of the body. You get protective eye covers. The light feels warm, a bit like soft afternoon sun, and there is no noise, pain or recovery time.
Sessions usually last 20 to 30 minutes. Your skin may look a little pink for a short while afterward. You can put on makeup and go straight back to your day, though we recommend sunscreen, as you should every day in San Diego.
Check with us first if:
Please tell your provider or concierge before booking if any of these apply:
- You take medicines that make you sensitive to light, such as some acne medicines and antibiotics
- You are pregnant
- You have a history of seizures triggered by light
- You have an active skin condition, a rash or a recent procedure elsewhere
Your first red light therapy appointment, step by step
- Before you arrive. Come with clean skin if your face is being treated, or plan to remove makeup here. Bring a list of any medications and skincare actives you use.
- Quick check-in. Your provider asks about your skin, medications, pregnancy and any recent procedures, and what you want from the session.
- The session. You relax with eye protection while the LightStim® panel sits over the treatment area for 20 to 30 minutes.
- After. Your skin may look slightly flushed for a short time. Wear sunscreen and keep your usual routine unless your provider suggests otherwise.
- How often. It depends on your goals. Some members come weekly for a few weeks, others add a session whenever they book a facial or acupuncture. You decide.

Red light therapy FAQs
How much does red light therapy cost in San Diego at Saffron & Sage?
LightStim® is available to members and is usually added to another service. New patients can start with a first visit and consultation for $300, normally $600, or a first appointment for $250, normally $300. HSA, FSA and LSA dollars are welcome for many services.
What is LightStim®?
LightStim® is a brand of professional LED panels that use several wavelengths of red and near-infrared light at the same time. It is the system we use at Saffron & Sage.
Does red light therapy hurt?
No. The light feels warm and gentle, like soft sun on your skin. There are no needles and no downtime.
Is red light therapy safe?
LED light therapy is generally well tolerated, and we always use eye protection. It isn’t right for everyone, including people on some light-sensitizing medicines or with light-triggered seizures. Tell us about your medications and health history first.
How long is a session?
Most sessions last 20 to 30 minutes. If you are pairing it with a facial, acupuncture or an IV, plan a little extra time.
How often should I get red light therapy?
It depends on what you want from it. Some members come weekly for a few weeks, then less often. Others add a session whenever they book a facial or acupuncture. Your provider will suggest a rhythm, and you decide.
Red light therapy vs an at-home mask: what’s the difference?
Professional panels are larger and generally more powerful than most at-home masks, and a session here is set up by trained staff who can pair it with the rest of your care. At-home devices can be convenient. If you use one, tell us so we can plan around it.
Can I combine red light with microneedling or a facial?
Yes, and it is one of the most common ways members use it. Your esthetician will tell you when your skin is ready and whether to have the light before or after.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothes. For a face session, come with clean skin or remove makeup here. For a body session, wear something that lets you uncover the area easily, or we’ll give you a sheet.
Can I get red light therapy while pregnant?
Please check with us and your OB or midwife first. We’ll talk it through before booking a session.
Will I look red afterward?
Some people look a little pink for a short time. Most go straight back to work or out to dinner.
Is red light therapy covered by insurance or HSA?
We’re a direct pay clinic and don’t bill insurance. HSA, FSA and LSA eligibility for LED sessions varies, especially when a provider hasn’t recommended them. Check with your plan administrator.
Do I need to be a member?
No. You can always book LightStim® à la carte. Membership unlocks preferred pricing, member-only offers and events, and other perks.
Where are you located?
