Psychotherapy · San Diego
Psychotherapy in San Diego,
Maybe you are the one everyone relies on, and lately it takes more effort to hold it all together. Anxiety that hums in the background, a burnout that rest hasn’t touched, a pattern you keep noticing but can’t seem to change. Talking it through with the right person can help you make sense of it.
At Saffron & Sage, therapy happens with a licensed marriage and family therapist, in the same clinic as our Acupuncturists, Naturopathic Doctors and medical team. If you want it to, your therapy can connect with the rest of your care instead of sitting in a separate box.

The basics
What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy, often called talk therapy or counseling, is a structured, confidential conversation with a licensed mental health professional, aimed at understanding your thoughts, feelings and patterns and finding new ways to respond to them.
There are many approaches. Some, like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), are practical and skills-based: you notice unhelpful thought patterns and practice new ones. Others go deeper into your history, your relationships and the parts of you that pull in different directions. A good therapist blends approaches around you, not the other way around.
We don’t make promises about results. Therapy is work you do together, and it moves at a different pace for everyone. Your therapist will be honest with you about what therapy can reasonably help with, and when something else, like a visit with our medical team, should come alongside it.
How therapy fits into integrative care here
At Saffron & Sage, therapy doesn’t have to stand alone. Stress and emotion show up in the body too: in sleep, digestion, muscle tension and energy. If you are a member and you give permission, your therapist can coordinate with your Acupuncturist, Naturopathic Doctor or medical provider so your care points in one direction.
Some members pair therapy with Acupuncture, Breathwork or Hypnotherapy. Others come for therapy alone. Either way, what you share in session stays confidential, and you decide what, if anything, is shared with the rest of your team.

What it feels like
What a session feels like
A session is a private conversation in a quiet room, sitting on a comfortable sofa or chair. You talk, your therapist listens closely, asks questions and sometimes offers a new way of looking at things or a small practice to try during the week. There is no couch-and-notepad script, and you never have to share more than you are ready to.
Some sessions feel light. Some bring up hard feelings, and that is normal. Your therapist will help you pace things so you leave feeling steady enough to get on with your day. Over time, many people find they understand their reactions better and feel more able to choose how they respond.
Not sure therapy is for you?
You might start with something gentler, like:
- A free discovery call to talk it through first
- Coaching, if you want forward-looking goal work
- Breathwork or Meditation to settle the body
- Spiritual Direction, for questions of meaning and purpose

What is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy, also called talk therapy or counseling, is a structured, confidential conversation with a licensed mental health professional. You explore thoughts, feelings and patterns and practice new ways of responding to them.
How do I book Psychotherapy?
Book online on this page: choose your session, pick your therapist and a time, and pay at checkout. New patients can start with the $250 first appointment. You can also call (619) 933-2340.
Do you take insurance?
We’re a direct pay clinic and don’t bill insurance. HSA, FSA and LSA dollars are often accepted for therapy with a Licensed Therapist. Some people ask us for a receipt to submit to their plan for out-of-network reimbursement; check with your insurer first.
Who will I be seeing?
Therapy is provided by Sheava, MA, LMFT, a licensed marriage and family therapist who is also a certified Hypnotherapist. She works with individuals, couples and families.
What’s the difference between a therapist, a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
Licensed therapists, like marriage and family therapists, provide talk therapy. Psychologists also provide therapy and can do formal psychological testing. Psychiatrists are medical Doctors who can diagnose and prescribe medication. If medication might help, we can talk about next steps with our medical team or refer you out.
How often will I come to therapy?
Many people start weekly or every other week, then space sessions out as things feel steadier. Your therapist will make a suggestion, and you decide.
How long does therapy take?
It depends on what you are working on. Some people come for a focused stretch of a few months; others prefer ongoing support. You can review how it’s going together at any time.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share stays private, within the limits of California law. Your therapist will explain those limits, such as a risk to your safety or someone else’s, at your first visit. Nothing is shared with the rest of our team without your permission.
Is this crisis care?
No. We offer planned, outpatient therapy. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline any time, or call 911.
Do you offer couples therapy?
Yes. Our therapist is a licensed marriage and family therapist, so couples work is part of her training. A couples session uses two medical credits.
Should I try therapy or Coaching?
Therapy is for exploring emotions, patterns, past experiences and mental health, with a licensed clinician. Coaching is forward-looking goal and accountability work and isn’t a substitute for therapy. If you are unsure, a free discovery call helps you choose.
Can therapy be combined with Acupuncture or other care?
Yes. Many patients pair therapy with Acupuncture, Breathwork or naturopathic care. With your permission, your therapist can coordinate with the rest of your care team.
Do you offer virtual therapy?
Some sessions may be available by secure video for clients in California. Ask when you book.
Do I need to be a member?
No. Anyone can book Psychotherapy online and pay at checkout. Membership unlocks preferred pricing, member-only offers and events, and other perks.
