Vitamin Injections in San Diego: B12, Vitamin D, NAD+ and more

Intramuscular (IM) Vitamin Injections deliver micronutrients straight into muscle tissue, where they are absorbed into the bloodstream without depending on stomach acid, intrinsic factor or a healthy gut lining. For biohackers, busy professionals and anyone whose labs show low B12 or vitamin D, a 15-minute shot is one of the most efficient ways to close a nutrient gap.

At Saffron & Sage, every injection is reviewed by a licensed prescriber and given by our Registered Nurses or Naturopathic Doctors. Book a shot on its own, add one to your IV Therapy, or build a protocol around your Diagnostic Testing.

Why patients book

Why patients book Vitamin Injections

These are the reasons we hear most from people across San Diego, from Little Italy and Downtown to Mission Hills and North Park. Most start with labs, then use injections to correct what the numbers show.

Low energy and fatigue

Tired despite sleep, often with low or low-normal B12, ferritin or vitamin D on labs.

Brain fog and focus

B12 and B-complex vitamins are cofactors for neurotransmitter synthesis and myelin.

Poor absorption

Low stomach acid, PPIs, metformin, IBS or a plant-based diet all limit oral B12 absorption.

Immune resilience

Extra support through cold and flu season, travel and high-stress stretches.

Travel and jet lag

Before or after a long flight, to support immunity, hydration and recovery.

Pair with an IV drip →

Metabolic and weight goals

Lipotropic and B-vitamin support alongside nutrition, training and labs.

Sleep and stress

Nutrients involved in GABA and melatonin pathways for a nervous system that won’t switch off.

Longevity and performance

NAD+ for cellular energy and healthy aging, as part of a lab-guided protocol.

The basics

What are Vitamin Injections, and how do they work?

Vitamin Injections are intramuscular shots, usually into the deltoid (upper arm) or the gluteal muscle. Muscle is highly vascular, so the nutrient enters circulation steadily over hours, bypassing the digestive tract entirely. Oral absorption of B12, for example, depends on stomach acid and intrinsic factor and saturates at about 1.5 mcg per meal; an IM dose does not.

B12 is a cofactor for methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase, two enzymes behind methylation, homocysteine clearance, myelin maintenance and red blood cell formation. Vitamin D works more like a hormone: the vitamin D receptor is found in immune cells, muscle and bone, and many people in San Diego still test insufficient because of sunscreen and indoor work.

NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) carries electrons in mitochondrial energy production and is the fuel for sirtuins and PARP enzymes involved in DNA repair. Tissue NAD+ declines with age, which is why it has become a cornerstone of longevity protocols.

Vitamin Injections vs IV Therapy

An injection delivers a concentrated dose of one or a few nutrients in seconds. An IV drip delivers a larger volume with fluids and electrolytes over about an hour. Many patients use IV Therapy monthly and injections weekly in between, guided by Diagnostic Testing and Nutritional Therapy.

What it feels like

Quick, simple and over in minutes

The injection itself takes a few seconds. Most people feel a small pinch in the upper arm and some notice mild soreness at the site for a day. B12 can tint urine slightly pink-red for a day, which is harmless.

With B12, some people feel an energy lift within hours; with vitamin D and other nutrients, the effect builds over weeks as levels rise. Your Registered Nurse will tell you what to expect and how often to come back.

Tell us before your injection if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
  • Have allergies to vitamins, cobalt or preservatives
  • Have kidney disease or Leber’s disease

Our Vitamin Injections

Each injection is a quick IM shot. B12 is $25 and every other blend is $50, booked and paid for online. Your nurse walks you through each formula’s ingredients before your injection.

$25

B12

The active cofactor for methylation, homocysteine clearance, myelin and red blood cell formation. Bypasses intrinsic-factor absorption, so it works when oral B12 does not. Often weekly for 4 weeks, then monthly.

$50

Vitamin D

A hormone-like vitamin that regulates calcium absorption, muscle function and innate immunity through the vitamin D receptor. Dosed against your 25-OH vitamin D level.

$50

Energy

A B-complex formula: B1, B2, B3, B5 and B6 are cofactors in glycolysis, the Krebs cycle and the electron transport chain where mitochondria make ATP.

$50

Immunity

Nutrients involved in innate and adaptive immune defence, such as vitamin C, zinc and B vitamins, for cold and flu season, travel and high-stress weeks.

$50

Metabolism

A lipotropic-style formula that supports fat metabolism in the liver and energy production, used alongside a nutrition and training plan.

$50

Beauty

Nutrients such as biotin and B vitamins that support keratin production for hair and nails and collagen-supporting pathways for skin.

$50

Detox

Support for phase II liver detoxification and glutathione-dependent antioxidant pathways, your body’s own clearance systems.

$50

Sleep

A calming formula built around nutrients such as magnesium and B6, cofactors in GABA, serotonin and melatonin synthesis.

Questions

Vitamin Injections FAQs

How much does Vitamin Injections cost in San Diego at Saffron & Sage?

At Saffron & Sage, a B12 injection is $25 and every other Vitamin Injection is $50, booked online with payment at checkout. You can book a shot on its own as a 15-minute visit or add it to your IV Therapy. New patients who want a full health review can book a first appointment for $250 (normally $300). HSA, FSA and LSA dollars are welcome.

Which Vitamin Injection should I choose?

It depends on your goals and labs. B12 and Vitamin D are the most common starting points. Ask our team when you book, or have a Naturopathic Doctor review your labs first.

Are B12 injections better than B12 pills?

For people who absorb poorly, yes. Oral B12 needs stomach acid and intrinsic factor, and absorption is limited per dose. IM B12 bypasses the gut, which is why it is standard care for B12 deficiency and pernicious anemia.

How often should I get a B12 injection?

Many people start with weekly injections for the first month, then maintenance every few weeks. Your practitioner will recommend a rhythm based on your symptoms and labs.

How long do the effects last?

It depends on the nutrient and your levels. B12 is stored in the liver, so a correction can last weeks; water-soluble blends are used more often. Re-testing shows whether your levels are holding.

Vitamin Injections or IV Therapy: which is better?

They do different jobs. An injection is a quick, concentrated dose of a few nutrients. An IV drip delivers more nutrients plus fluids over about an hour. Many patients combine the two.

Do Vitamin Injections hurt?

Most people feel a small pinch in the upper arm. Some notice mild soreness at the site for a day.

What is an NAD+ injection?

NAD+ is a coenzyme your cells use to make energy and repair DNA, and levels fall with age. NAD+ injections are usually given as a series over a few weeks. A brief warm or flushed feeling is common and passes quickly.

Can I add an injection to my IV?

Yes. Add any injection when you book your IV Therapy, or ask your nurse on the day.

Who gives the injections?

Our Registered Nurses and Naturopathic Doctors, after a licensed prescriber reviews your health history.

Do I need labs first?

Not for most Vitamin Injections. Labs are required for prescription protocols such as weight management, peptides and TRT, and are a good idea if you want to know whether you are actually low.

How do I book Vitamin Injections?

Book online on this page: choose your appointment, pick your practitioner and a time, and pay at checkout. New patients can start with the $250 first appointment. You can also call (619) 933-2340.

Is Vitamin Injections covered by insurance or HSA?

We accept HSA, FSA, HRA and LSA funds. Your plan administrator decides which services are eligible, so please check with your plan. We are direct pay and do not bill insurance; superbills are available on request.

Do I need to be a member?

No. Anyone can book Vitamin Injections online and pay at checkout. Membership unlocks preferred pricing, member-only offers and events, and other perks.
