The Integrative Physical: two hours, your whole body, one clear plan
Most physicals are fifteen minutes, a blood pressure cuff and a “see you next year.” If you lead a company, a team or a family, you deserve a clearer picture than that. The Integrative Physical is 120 unhurried minutes with a doctor who looks at how your whole body is actually running.
It is the starting point for care at Saffron & Sage. You leave with a baseline, a plain-language plan and a care team that knows your history. The Integrative Physical is $1,200, or four medical credits for members.

Why people in San Diego book an Integrative Physical
We hear these most from founders, executives and busy professionals across San Diego, from Little Italy and Downtown to La Jolla, Del Mar and North Park. Many of them feel “fine” on paper and still sense something is off.

Your labs say “normal,” you don’t feel it
Standard ranges tell you whether something is clearly wrong. Our doctors also look at where you sit within the range and how markers relate to each other.
Beyond “normal” →
Energy that falls off a cliff at 3 PM
Afternoon crashes, a second wind at midnight, and coffee doing the heavy lifting.
The energy crisis in leadership →Stress that has started to show up in your body
Sleep, digestion, mood and focus shifting during a demanding season of work.
The stress blind spot →
It has been years since a real checkup
Busy calendars push annual physicals back. This one is worth the two hours.

A family history you want to understand
Heart health, metabolic health or thyroid concerns that run in the family.
Heart health lab markers →
A milestone birthday
Turning 40 or 50 is a natural moment to get a clear baseline and a plan for the next decade.
Habits to stop in your 40s →You care about longevity, not just today
You want to know what to track over time, and why, from people who will actually explain it.
Longevity biomarkers →
You want one team, not five referrals
A single appointment that connects the dots, with doctors, acupuncturists and nutrition support under one roof.
What is an Integrative Physical?

An Integrative Physical is a 120-minute, whole-person health assessment with one of our doctors. It combines a conventional physical exam and lab testing with Eastern assessment methods, and it looks at all 12 body systems rather than one complaint at a time.
Your doctor reviews your health history, family history, medications, supplements, sleep, stress, nutrition and movement. You get a hands-on physical exam and functional assessments, along with Chinese medicine tools like pulse and tongue assessment. Afterward, an in-house blood draw is scheduled, usually within a week, so your plan is built on real data rather than guesswork.
We don’t make promises about results. What we can promise is time, attention and a clear explanation of what we found, what it may mean and what we suggest you do next. If something needs urgent or specialist care, we will tell you and help you get there.
How the Integrative Physical fits into your care
The Integrative Physical is the foundation for membership care at Saffron & Sage. Your findings feed a personal Holistic Health Plan, and your care team can see it: acupuncture, nutritional therapy, bodywork and more can be planned around what your doctor learned, instead of guessed at.
It works alongside your regular primary care physician, not instead of them. Your conventional doctor is there for acute illness and standard screenings. Your holistic primary care provider here spends longer on prevention-minded questions: sleep, stress, nutrition and how your markers are trending over time.

What happens in your 120 minutes
Two hours sounds like a lot until you realize it replaces the fragmented version: a rushed physical, a separate lab visit, a nutrition appointment and three follow-up calls. We schedule it so you can come in before or after work, and our concierge team handles the logistics.
You don’t need to prepare anything elaborate. Bring your questions, any recent lab reports and a list of what you take. Your doctor will do the rest, and you will leave knowing exactly what happens next.
What your visit covers
A typical Integrative Physical includes:
- A detailed health, family and lifestyle history
- A hands-on physical exam across 12 body systems
- Pulse and tongue assessment from Chinese medicine
- Functional assessments of how your body responds to stress
- A lab plan, with an in-house blood draw usually within a week
- Next steps and how your care team will follow up
Your first Integrative Physical appointment, step by step
- Before you arrive. Complete your intake forms, gather recent lab reports and write down your medications and supplements. Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early. You do not need to fast unless you are having blood drawn that day.
- History and goals. Your doctor starts with a real conversation: what is going well, what isn’t, and what you want from the next few years.
- The exam. A head-to-toe physical exam, pulse and tongue assessment, and functional assessments, all in one visit.
- Your blood draw. Your in-house blood draw is scheduled after your exam, usually within a week, so you don’t have to go to an outside lab.
- Results and plan. You review your results with your doctor and receive a personal Holistic Health Plan, with check-ins typically every 90 days.

Integrative Physical FAQs
How much does an Integrative Physical cost in San Diego?
The Integrative Physical at Saffron & Sage is $1,200, or four medical credits for members. Some lab tests may be priced separately, and your doctor gives you a clear overview before anything is ordered. HSA and FSA dollars can often be used.
How long does the appointment take?
Plan for about 120 minutes with your doctor. Your blood draw is usually scheduled separately, within a week of your visit.
How is this different from a regular physical?
A conventional physical is usually short and focused on standard screenings. The Integrative Physical is two hours, covers 12 body systems, adds Eastern assessment such as pulse and tongue, and ends with a personal plan and a care team to support it.
Is this an executive physical?
Many of our patients are executives and founders, and it covers the ground people expect from an executive health assessment: a long, detailed visit, broad lab work and a plan. The difference is that it connects to ongoing integrative care, not just a report.
Can I keep my primary care doctor?
Yes, and we encourage it. Your primary care physician handles acute illness and routine screenings. We work alongside them and can share results with your permission.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that does not restrict movement. You will not need to change into a gown.
Should I fast before my visit?
Only if you are having blood drawn. The physical itself needs no fasting, and it usually happens before the blood draw. If both are on the same day, fast for the draw and bring a snack to eat as we start the physical.
What should I bring?
Any recent lab reports, a list of medications and supplements, and your questions. If you have results from another doctor, bring those too.
What happens after the physical?
Your blood draw is scheduled, usually within a week. Once results are in, you review them with your doctor and receive a personal Holistic Health Plan, with check-ins typically every 90 days.
What if something concerning comes up?
Your doctor will explain it clearly and, if needed, refer you to the right specialist or back to your primary care physician. Anything urgent is flagged right away.
How often should I get an Integrative Physical?
Most members do one a year, with shorter Holistic Health Check-Ins in between.
Is the Integrative Physical covered by insurance or HSA?
We’re a direct pay clinic and don’t bill insurance. HSA and FSA dollars can often be used for medical visits and lab testing. Check eligibility with your plan administrator.
Do I need to be a member?
No. You can always book à la carte, including the Integrative Physical on its own. Membership unlocks preferred pricing, member-only offers and events, and other perks.
Is this right for everyone?
It suits most adults who want a thorough baseline and a plan. If you have a medical emergency or need urgent care, this isn’t the right visit. Our team can help you decide on a free discovery call.
Where are you located?
