With the warmth of spring and summer on its way, we all can’t help but notice the bees buzzing from one flower to the next. Warm nights and readily available pollen sources make a good combination for bees to produce honey. Putting a few teaspoons into your tea is soothing and tasty, but how about using it as part of your skincare routine?

This golden goop has more benefits than one may consider as it provides nutrients both internally and externally. With it’s abundant supply of antioxidants, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, there’s no wonder why honey is the superfood of the season. Below are two beneficial reasons why you should be using raw honey in your daily skincare routine.

1. Hydration

Well-hydrated skin is known to produce a radiant face that is less prone to wrinkles. Just be sure to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day. While this practice should always be a daily priority, it’s beneficial to understand that honey can also help keep your face looking plump and resilient. Renee Loux, a writer at Women’s Health, states that honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air into the skin and ensures it’s retained in the layers where it’s needed most for penetrating, long-lasting hydration.

For readers with dry skin or for those looking for extra skin hydration, be sure to try out this nourishing honey facemask recipe created by Living The Nourished Life.

Honey Face Mask For Dry Skin

  • 1 teaspoon mashed avocado

  • 1 teaspoon plain whole milk yogurt

  • 1 teaspoon raw honey

Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl until smooth. Apply mixture to face and let it sit for 20-30 minutes before washing it off.

2. Anti-Aging

With so many skincare companies producing anti-aging products that contain a vast array of strange ingredients, there’s no telling what your face will ultimately agree or disagree with. Instead of taking a risky chance on an anti-aging serum, turn to an all-natural product that contains no additions or additives. For instance, honey.

Jessica Padykula, a contributor for SheKnows, explains that honey is filled with antioxidants, which is beneficial for slowing down the aging process. It also contains anti-bacterial properties, probiotics, and enzymes. This superfood is the perfect aid when it comes to anti-aging prevention.
