The beginning of each season is marked by a Solstice or Equinox - the point during the Earth's orbit around the sun in which it is at its least (Equinox) or greatest (Solstice) distance from the celestial equator.
On the Winter Solstice we mark the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year above the equator.
"Solstice" comes from the Latin solsitium, or "sun stands still" named for the appearance of the sun on this first day of winter that appears to stand still reaching its highest point in the sky.
Ancient cultures around the world have long observed the Winter Solstice with festivals and celebrations honoring the change of seasons and shifting their postures and practices to reflect the seasonal invitation.
In Winter we are invited to embrace the way of the Warrior as we display respect for ourselves and others we display willingness to to look again, to be open and accepting of who we are and where we are at, of who our neighbor is and where they are at.
Through the gentle guidance of Cristin Smith, Founder & Spiritual Director, we will embrace the luxurious growth of Winter - bringing acknowledgment through
reflection (silence) and expression (journaling and sharing) to our individual experiences creating space to show up this Winter speaking and acting on our personal truth. You will leave our time together feeling energized and with your very own Saffron & Sage seasonal guide to Winter wellness.
