We are told that true beauty lies within… Well, this time it quite literally means just that! The health of our skin always begins with the state of our internal health.
Being a Holistic Health Coach, using food as medicine has been a huge focus in my life for the past 5 years. It was about 4 years ago that I learned about the incredible healing and nourishing powers of Bone Broth. So much so that it was one of the very first foods that I gave to both of my children to help nourish their sweet little bodies day in and day out!
Think back maybe when you were sick, most of us were lovingly given a bowl of chicken noodle soup to help us feel better – but not too many people really understand why! I don’t know about you, but it always fed my body and seemed to also feed my soul; the main component of this was always “broth”. But I’m not talking about the kind out of a box you get on the store shelves. I’m referring to the pot that simmered slowly on the back burner of your grandmother’s stove for hours and hours, filling the room with its most incredible scent. That’s the good stuff right there!
Bone Broth has become a total “superfood” over the past few years for its incredible health benefits such as:
helping heal the gut
boosting your immune system
helping decrease inflammation
and even helping grow long and strong hair and nails!
Bone broths are nutrient-dense, easy to digest, rich in flavor and boost healing on so many different levels.
But this “superfood” has pretty simple roots and doesn’t require anything exotic – and that is the beauty of it just as food should be. Food is the greatest of all medicines and the greatest of all beauty. And just as quality ingredients are very important for our beauty products, as is the quality of ingredients being put into your bone broth!
NOW LET’S CHAT ABOUT HOW BONE BROTH IS SUCH A POWERHOUSE FOR MAINTAINING THE HEALTH OF YOUR SKIN.
As we age, natural collagen production in our body declines which means you will begin to notice it physically: looser skin, more wrinkles and less elasticity. This is what makes Bone Broth so incredible for healthy skin! It has amazing amounts of collagen which helps form elastin and other compounds within skin that are responsible for maintaining skin’s youthful tone, texture and appearance.
Collagen integrity is accredited with helping reduce the visible signs of wrinkles, decreasing puffiness and fighting various other signs of aging. Many people report a decrease in cellulite when consuming foods and supplements containing collagen!
Another incredible nutrient found in bone broth is Hyaluronic Acid. This acid is found throughout connective, epithelial (skin) and neural tissues and helps allows our cells to perform various functions throughout the body as needed. It offers support for multiple skin types and promotes healthy aging, cell rejuvenation and skin firmness.

Most store-bought bone broths and stocks today aren’t necessarily the “good stuff” as I like to call it! Instead, companies use lab-produced meat flavors in bouillon cubes, soup and sauce mixes. Also, manufacturers began using monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is recognized as a meat flavor but in reality is a neurotoxin.
This is where the quality of ingredients you use in bone broth is so important! My husband and I are so passionate about the true healing powers of quality Bone Broth that we even started our own Bone Broth Company and sell directly to consumers and through a local farmer in our area. And I’m spilling the beans on our recipe!
COURTNI’S NOURISHING BONE BROTH:
1 whole pasture-raised chicken carcass (I make a roasted chicken dinner and use the leftover bones)
1 lb pasture raised chicken feet
3 organic carrots, chopped
1 organic onion, large chop
2 organic stalk celery, chopped
4 empty eggshells from pasture raised eggs
1. In a large crockpot, put in the chicken carcass, chicken feet, vegetables, egg shells 2. Fill to the top with filtered water and place the lid on top
3. Cook on High for 4 hours and then cook on low for another 20 hours
4. Let cool and then strain the liquid
5. Store in a large container in your fridge (good for about a week) or freeze (up to 1 year)
6. Perfect for soups, cooking grains, or sipping in the morning while you fast
*Quality of ingredients is VERY important for a truly healing and powerful bone broth. Please do your best to source pasture-raised and organic ingredients for all of this recipe!
*I save my eggshells from breakfast and put in a large container and store in the freezer. Egg shells do not impart any sort of flavor but actually contain a very important type of collagen that provides glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid and various amino acids that have benefits for building connective tissue, wound healing, building muscle mass and reducing pain/stiffness.
Bone Broth is an amazing addition to your daily routine for so many health benefits as well as really stepping up your beauty game! I always tell my clients that “taking back control of your health always starts with taking back control of the kitchen.”
So go get your hands dirty in the kitchen and start nourishing your body from the inside out!
